Position Description

Fudan University’s mathematical logic group invites applications for faculty positions (open rank) in Model Theory, with an intended start date of September 2026 (subject to negotiation).

About Fudan University's mathematical logic group 

Fudan University’s mathematical logic group is part of the School of Philosophy at Fudan University.  There are currently four faculty members, two specializing in model theory and two specializing in philosophy of mathematics.  There are currently 13 master’s students and 5 PhD students in the logic group (including 4 PhD students in model theory).  Many of the students have a strong background in mathematics.  We regularly host conferences and summer schools on mathematical logic and model theory specifically.

In the next few years, we are planning to hire one or two additional model theorists, and begin to set up a joint program in model theory bridging the philosophy and mathematics departments.

Responsibilities: 

• Engage in high-quality research in model theory
• Collaborate with professors in the philosophy and mathematics departments
• Publish research results in peer-reviewed journals
• Teach courses within the philosophy department (see below)
• Supervise graduate students
• Apply for external funding

In the mathematical logic group, we typically teach courses on set theory, model theory, recursion theory, and related topics.  We teach these courses to both undergraduate and graduate students.  The students who take these courses include both philosophy majors and mathematics majors, as well as others.  Teaching can be done in either English or Chinese.
