Position Description
The
Department of Mathematics and Statistical Science at the University of Idaho
invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to start
August 2026. We seek candidates with a strong background in pure or applied analysis
with expertise in topics such as differential
equations, complex analysis, measure theory, probability, or stochastic

The University of
Idaho is Idaho’s flagship Carnegie R1 university. The department maintains
research strengths in pure mathematics, applied mathematics, mathematical
biology, mathematics education, and applied and theoretical statistics. The department offers several
degree programs, including the only Ph.D. program in Mathematics in the state. Additionally, many faculty are
affiliated with interdisciplinary groups across campus including the Institute
for Modeling Collaboration and Innovation (IMCI), the Institute for
Interdisciplinary Data Sciences (IIDS), and the Bioinformatics and
Computational Biology program.
The
University of Idaho is located in the city of Moscow, Idaho, in the spectacular
natural environment of the Palouse region. The location offers wonderful access
for outdoor activities in the lakes, rivers and mountains of North Idaho. Additionally,
Moscow, ID is located only nine miles from Washington State
University in Pullman, Washington with ample opportunities for collaboration.
Candidates will demonstrate a successful research record, plans for further developing their research program, and a passion for teaching. In addition, successful candidates will demonstrate their potential as a research mentor at both the graduate and undergraduate level.
Responsibilities
·
Teach
undergraduate and graduate courses in mathematics (typically two
three/four-credit courses per semester) to support mathematics education at the
university and the BS, MS, and PhD programs in mathematics.
·
Establish
and sustain an independent research program, including mentoring and advising undergraduate
and graduate students.
·
Contribute
to university service including serving on committees and participating in
recruitment and retention efforts.
·
Participate
in activities related to community involvement and serving in the professional
community through reviewing manuscripts and proposals and conducting workshops.
Required Qualifications
·
Ph.D.
in mathematics, applied mathematics, or a closely related field
·
Experience
researching applied mathematics
·
Experience
teaching mathematics at the college level
Preferred Qualifications
·
Postdoctoral
experience in a closely related field
·
Strong
commitment and ability to teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels, particularly
some of the core courses in analysis
·
Strong
commitment and ability to acquire external funding
·
Ability
and interest in collaborative multidisciplinary research
