at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences
We are inviting applications for the position of full professor in the area of industrial mathematics, to be filled as soon as possible. Candidates are expected to have distinguished expertise and a visible research agenda in the field of applied mathematics with implementation-oriented industrial relevance. Relevant research topics include data-integrated simulation methods, methods for artificial intelligence, mathematical modeling, optimization, optimal control, inverse problems or imaging, with a focus on the interplay between mathematics and application. Excellent applications from other areas of industrial mathematics are explicitly welcome. Strategies for acquiring third-party funding and experience with interdisciplinary projects are required. The successful candidate will be expected to facilitate cooperation with other research groups at RWTH, particularly in the engineering sciences, and to promote the mathematical and methodological development of the research field. Adequate participation in the teaching obligations of the Department of Mathematics is part of the duties of the professorship, which includes lectures in mathematics for students of other disciplines.
The requirements include a doctoral degree and additional research experience, such as a habilitation (post-doctoral lecturing qualification) or equivalent achievements gained as a university researcher or professor or in a research position outside academia. Teaching ability and dedication are essential and the application should include proof of this. Fluent German is not required to start the position but the successful candidate will be expected to hold classes in German within the first 5 years.
Participation in academic self-administration is expected.
