Position Description
2-year postdoctoral position in Number Theory
The Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University (Prague) invites applications for a postdoctoral position in Number Theory.
The position will be funded by Assoc. Prof. Kala's project "Sailing to criterion sets for quadratic forms". Knowledge of Czech is not necessary; teaching is negotiable but will typically consist of one or two advanced courses (in number theory or a related area, taught in English) per year. Due to the restrictions of the funding agency, applicants must have received their Ph.D. within the last 8 years (exceptions are possible in cases of parental leave and long-term sickness). The gross salary is approx. 60000 CZK (~2400 EUR) per month, which is sufficient for a comfortable life in Pragu e.
The expected duration of the position is August 1, 2026 – August 31, 2028 (negotiabl e).
Strong applicants from all areas of number theory (broadly interpreted) are welcome to apply, although pref erence may be given to quadratic forms, algebraic number theory, arithmetic statistics, or geometry of generaliz ed continued fractions.
The Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at Charles University is the leading institution in mathematics in C zechia, with highly motivated and well-educated students in our mathematics programs. The School of Mathematics has about 110 academic positions, covering most of the major areas of mathematics. The Department of Algebra, wh ere the position will be hosted, offers an open-minded international environment with outstanding conditions for independent research. We currently have about 15 permanent and 15 postdoctoral employees, including approx. 20 international researchers and 9 number theorists.
