Fellowship Description

Department of Applied Mathematics

Postdoctoral Fellowship in Mathematical Biology

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellowship for research in mathematical biology and medicine. The successful candidate will conduct research with Professor Anita Layton in mathematical modeling and data analysis of physiology. They will join the Layton group, a diverse and interdisciplinary team of researchers using computational modeling tools to better understand aspects of health and disease. Group members typically collaborate with physiologists, biomedical engineers, and clinicians to formulate detailed models of cellular and organ function. Model simulations and predictions are used to answer questions such as:
  • How do our kidney function and metabolism change as we age?
  • What is the best time to exercise, morning or evening? Or to take your meds? Does the answer differ between men and women? Or among people of different ethnicities?
  • Most clinical trials exclude children and pregnant women. Can we build virtual patient platform for assessing drug efficacy and side effects in these patient cohorts?
The position has an anticipated start date of August 1, 2026 (negotiable).

Applicants should have a PhD in mathematics or similar fields and should be proficient in scientific computing. The salary for this position is $70,000.

Application for this fellowship Is through the website MathJobs.org. Candidates should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae and a research statement to www.mathjobs.org. Applicants should also arrange for three letters of recommendation to be submitted through www.mathjobs.org website.

The application deadline is January 31, 2026 or until the position is filled.

We appreciate all replies to this advertisement, but only applicants under consideration will be contacted.
