Position Description
The Auburn NSF Focused Research Group (FRG) Postdoctoral Associate is a two-year appointment in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics that will begin in the Fall semester 2026, with the possibility of extension to a third year. The aim of this project is to deepen connections between commutative algebra, algebraic geometry, and symplectic geometry through concrete use of homological mirror symmetry. We seek candidates with research expertise in algebraic geometry, commutative algebra, symplectic geometry, or closely related areas. NSF FRG Postdoctoral Associates will be mentored by the project PI Michael Brown. Postdocs are expected to engage in FRG activities, including the FRG virtual seminar. A novel aspect of the position is that this NSF FRG Postdoctoral Associate will have the opportunity to select a secondary mentor from among the other project PIs: Matthew Ballard, Christine Berkesch, Daniel Erman, David Favero, Andrew Hanlon, or Sheel Ganatra. Applicants are encouraged to address, in their cover letter, who they would select as a secondary mentor as well as address their qualifications for the FRG project aims. We seek candidates with demonstrated excellence in teaching, commensurate with career stage. The position has a teaching load of two one-semester courses per academic year. Applicants should have received a Ph.D. in mathematics or its equivalent by the time the appointment begins. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents, per NSF requirements.
