Call for Applications 2026 PhD Scholarships in Pure Mathematics at Paderborn University for outstanding Early-Career Women Researchers 

The Executive Board of Paderborn University awards scholarships to outstanding women researches in pure mathematics who intend to pursue a PhD in one of the following research areas: algebraic geometry, algebraic number theory, differential geometry, harmonic analysis, representation theory, or spectral theory. The duration of the funding is three years. The amount of the scholarship is 3.000 EUR per month. 

The decision to award the scholarship is taken by the Executive Board upon the recommendation of the Selection Committee for Doctoral Scholarships in Pure Mathematics for Outstanding Early-Career Women Researchers. 

Applications can only be submitted by researchers themselves. The period between graduation and the start of funding should not exceed 15 months (exceptions must be justified in detail). 

The application consists of the following documents: 

1. Letter of motivation (including date and current contact details) 

2. Tabular CV 

3. Proof of the educational qualifications obtained in the form of copies of the secondary school leaving/ diploma/degree certificates (university entrance qualification, BSc., MSc.), including translation of the marks, if necessary 

4. At least one recommendation letter from a university professor (to be sent in a separate e-mail to Ms. Machuletz: eim-m-gs@uni-paderborn.de) 

5. Declaration of consent to data processing (originally signed by the applicant) 

The formal requirements must be observed when preparing the application. 

The application can be made in German as well as in English. 

The application documents must be submitted to the Selection Committee for Doctoral Scholarships in Pure Mathematics for Outstanding Early-Career Women Researchers via the Mathematics Institute’s Office of the Faculty of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Mathematics by 15 February 2026. Please submit the application documents by e-mail (one PDF file) to Ms. Machuletz: eim-m-gs@uni-paderborn.de. 

The applications will then be forwarded by the institute´s office to the Committee for Doctoral Scholarships in Pure Mathematics for Outstanding Early-Career Women Researchers. 

The selection will take place in two stages in two consecutive Committee-Sessions (1. preselection based on the application; 2. final selection: invitation to personal interview ).
