The Reed College Mathematics and Statistics Department invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professorship in mathematics, to begin in August 2026. Applicants should have completed their PhD dissertation in mathematics or applied mathematics by the time of appointment. Applicants from all areas of mathematics are welcome to apply, but we are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in analysis. We are seeking candidates who are committed to teaching students from a wide variety of backgrounds and who have a strong research program that can engage undergraduates. The successful candidate is expected to teach the equivalent of five semester courses over the academic year and to supervise senior theses. The senior thesis is a cornerstone of the Reed College academic experience. It is a year-long project, required of each student, which culminates in a written document and an oral defense. Applicants are encouraged to supply their ideas for thesis projects and to describe their past experience mentoring student research.
