The Department of Mathematics at Saarland University is inviting applications for the following position to commence at the earliest possible date:
W3 Professorship in Pure Mathematics

The successful candidate will have exceptional research and teaching skills, international visibility and a research speciality in an area of pure mathematics which complements the existing departmental focal points.
The research profile of the professorship should demonstrate connections to algebra and analysis and enable collaboration in both directions. Possible research areas include geometry, topology and number theory. Thematic proximity to the Collaborative Research Center TRR 195 “Symbolic tools in mathematics and their application” and a willingness to participate in follow-up projects in algebra and analysis is desirable. Interest in other current research areas in the departments of mathematics and computer science is also welcome.
The appointment will be made in accordance with the general provisions of German public sector employment law (see legal recruitment requirements in § 41 Saarländisches Hochschulgesetz, current version available at https://recht.saarland.de/bssl/document/jlr-HSchulGSLrahmen).
Relevant high-quality publications and experience with, and the acquisition of research-oriented third-party funding are expected. In teaching, superior didactic skills and active participation in the teaching of pure mathematics, including basic courses in algebra and analysis, are required. The languages of instruction are German, and English in the master's level courses. The successful candidate is expected to acquire German language skills within a reasonable period of time.
