Position Description

The Facultad de Ciencias (FC) at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) invites applications for a full-time tenure track position in the field of actuarial science, with a starting date of August 2026.

UNAM is México's leading university and the FC is home to most of its science B.Sc. programs. The Department of Mathematics at the FC has nearly 90 full-time professors in a wide variety of areas within Actuarial Science, Computer Science and Mathematics, who teach at the four programs of the Department and three other programs at the FC. PROFILE OF CANDIDATES

We encourage outstanding candidates in all sub-disciplines of Actuarial Science to apply, although priority will be given to specialists in Statistics, Data Science and Probability.

The person selected to fill the position is expected to:

- Teach courses to undergraduate and master’s level students (in Spanish, a minimum of 9 hours per week each semester).

- Supervise undergraduate and graduate theses.

- Carry out outstanding research in their field of specialty with a relevant research program, and contribute actively to the strengthening and development of the area within the FC.

- Participate in teaching and research projects independently and/or in collaboration with the faculty members within and outside the FC.

- Participate in institutional activities of the FC.

- Be willing to respect institutional processes related to equality, non-discrimination, and a life free of violence within the FC.

- Preference will be given to individuals who can create synergy with the existing research groups at the FC.

REQUIREMENTS

Individuals who wish to be considered under this call must meet the following requirements:

- Hold a Ph.D. in mathematics or a related field.

- Be fluent in Spanish.

- To be under 38 years 6 months old (women) or 36 years 6 months old (men) during August 2026.

- Have a demonstrated record of undergraduate teaching in areas related to mathematics and their area of expertise.

- Have a demonstrated record of outstanding research in actuarial science.

- Possess strong communication skills.

- Show commitment to teaching excellence.

B. Curriculum vitae including supporting documents.

C. Critique of the syllabus of a course within the Actuarial Science program at FC (maximum 10 pages).

D. Teaching statement including your vision on the undergraduate teaching of the courses in the B.Sc. of Actuarial Science at FC.

E. Research plan.

F. A one year work plan including the following activities (minimum 4 pages): - Teaching. - Research. - Student supervision. - Outreach. - Dissemination/output. - List of undergraduate courses that the applicant can teach in the Actuarial Science B.Sc. program at FC. - Projects that generate income for the FC (desirable).

G. A statement of purpose, in free format, explaining why the applicant is interested in being part of the FC community (maximum 2 pages).

H. A letter in which the candidate commits to jointly create a work plan with the chair of the department in case of being hired.
