Position Description

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of South Alabama invites applications for the position of Department Chair. The Department seeks a dynamic leader who will be responsible for the academic, personnel, financial, and administrative needs of the Department. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in Mathematics or Statistics and must hold the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor at an accredited four-year college or university. Research and teaching specializations are open. The successful candidate will have a strong research record, a commitment to teaching excellence, and demonstrated administrative experience. The Department Chair is a twelve-month, tenure track position and reports to the Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences. The position is expected to begin by August 15, 2026, but the exact start date is open to negotiation.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers both undergraduate and graduate programs, with Bachelor of Science degrees in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, and Masters of Science degrees in Mathematics and in Applied Statistics. The department has a diverse group of faculty across a broad range of mathematical and statistical fields. The successful candidate should be able to interact with both mathematicians and statisticians across a wide range of subjects.
