Position Description
We seek a postdoctoral associate to work at the interface of spectral theory, quantum materials, and quantum information at the Center for Computation & Technology (CCT) at Louisiana State University. The position is jointly mentored by Stephen Shipman (Mathematics) and Justin Wilson (Physics & Astronomy) and embedded in a multi-institution collaboration of mathematicians and physicists. The postdoc will develop mathematical theory and methods for emergent quantum states in layered media— such as bound states in the continuum (BICs)—with applications to quantum materials and technology.
Research may include analytical and numerical spectral methods, momentum- and real-space analysis, and connections between spectral structure, topology, and quantum degrees of freedom. Research directions will be shaped jointly by the postdoc and mentors.
The position offers a strong interdisciplinary environment, opportunities for collaborative publications, and the chance to build an independent research profile at the mathematics–physics interface.
Job Responsibilities:
Research and Development: Developing analytical tools and theorems to inform physics and realistic material design; Momentum-space and real-space analyses and algebra; Building numerical spectral methods informed by rigorous theorems; Connections between spectral structure, topology, and quantum degrees of freedom (65%)
Collaboration: Work with faculty, students, and external partners on interdisciplinary initiatives aimed at applications in quantum materials and technologies; contribute to joint problem-solving and co-mentorship of graduate students. (20%)
