Position Description

Minnesota State University Moorhead Department of Mathematics is seeking applications for a probationary Assistant Professor position beginning August 18, 2026. This position requires teaching undergraduate statistics and mathematics courses at both the service and major level. This position requires knowledge of the actuarial sciences and preparing students for the first few exams as prescribed by the Society of Actuaries. It also requires engagement in appropriate scholarly work, continuing prepartion, and service to university and community.

RESPONSIBILITIES: • Teach Statistics and Mathematics Courses. The incumbent would be expected to teach statistics courses that serve actuarial science and data science majors, including courses on probability, statistics, regression, and financial mathematics. • Instruct courses in varied locations, at varied times, and via various media commensurate with department and university needs. • Engage in scholarly research or creative achievement to enhance knowledge of field. • Provide evidence of continuing preparation and study in the field to enhance teaching abilities. • Contribute to student growth and development including student advising. • Engage in service to the University and community. • Support Minnesota State University Moorhead's strategic priority of creating a campus community that is diverse, inclusive, globally aware, and just.

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum: • Earned Doctorate in Statistics, Mathematics or related field by time of appointment. • Must meet Higher Learning Commission [HLC] faculty credentialing guidelines [e.g. have 18 graduate credit hours in the discipline the faculty is teaching]. • Demonstrated commitment to quality teaching. • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with students of diverse backgrounds, including sensitivity to their needs and concerns

Preferred: • General training in teaching courses in actuarial science (exam P/1 and FM/2) • Having passed Actuarial Exams P/1 and FM/2 • Classroom teaching of university-level courses in lower level mathematics including calculus.
