We are
seeking to appoint a Terry Wall Fellow (Senior Postdoctoral Research
Associate).
You will be working with Dr Oleg
Karpenkov, Prof. Anna Pratoussevitch and Prof. Victor Goryunov within the
project “Continued Fractions in Lattice Geometry and Singularity Theory” funded
by XTX Markets. You will be a part of the Pure Mathematics section at the
Department of Mathematical Sciences of the University of Liverpool.
This project aims to solve various
problems in theory and applications of multidimensional continued fractions.
More precisely, you will work on the applications of continued fractions to one
of the following areas: lattice geometry, Diophantine approximation, algorithms
in algebraic number theory, real and complex hyperbolic geometry and
applications to singularity theory.
You
should have a PhD in pure mathematics or in another relevant quantitative
subject. You should ideally have research experience in one of the following
areas: continued fractions, generalised Euclidean algorithms, lattice geometry
and Diophantine approximation, real and complex hyperbolic geometry, discrete
geometry. You should demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication
skills and be able to write clearly and succinctly for publication.
We are committed to supporting the

opportunity to have research visits and to attend conferences to present the
results from your work. You will be appointed in the Department of Mathematical
Sciences, which is part of the School of Physical Sciences.
The expected start date is between 1
September and 31 December 2026 for 30 months.
