Position Description

Harvey Mudd College invites applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor of Mathematics for the 2026–27 academic year. This appointment may be renewed for a second year, depending on departmental teaching needs and College approval. Candidates in all areas of the mathematical sciences are encouraged to apply. 

Eligible candidates must hold a PhD by July 30, 2026, and the successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching undergraduates. The Department of Mathematics has a strong commitment to building a welcoming and inclusive department and campus environment. The visitor will teach five courses during the 2026–27 academic year. Teaching assignments will be determined in consultation with the successful candidate and are expected to include courses such as multivariable calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, and statistics. The successful candidate may also have the opportunity to participate in the department’s undergraduate research activities, including advising a math-in-industry senior capstone project. 

Harvey Mudd College is a highly selective liberal arts college of engineering, science, and mathematics. It is located in Claremont, California, approximately 35 miles east of Los Angeles. The College enrolls about 900 students and is a member of The Claremont Colleges, a consortium of seven independent institutions that includes Pomona College, Claremont McKenna College, Pitzer College, Scripps College, Claremont Graduate University, and Keck Graduate Institute.

The salary for the position is $90,000 for a 9-month contract.
