SSEN (Muju) Postdoctoral Fellowship in Mathematics

The Mathematical Research Institute at Seoul National University invites applications for the SSEN (Muju) Postdoctoral Fellowship. This fellowship is designed to support outstanding early-career researchers in mathematics and to promote the continued development of mathematical research across all areas of pure and applied mathematics.
The SSEN Fellowship places no restrictions on research area. Fellows are expected to pursue independent research programs based on their own ideas and interests. The institute provides an active research environment, including seminars, workshops, and opportunities for collaboration with domestic and international scholars, enabling fellows to deepen their research and develop new directions.
This fellowship particularly aims to support early-career researchers in establishing a long-term research vision and developing an independent research profile. The institute is committed to fostering a research environment that values autonomy, creativity, and ambitious inquiry.

Eligibility
Applicants must:
Be Korean nationals
Have received a Ph.D. in mathematics within the past 7 years, or expect to receive the Ph.D. by August 2026
Note: This position is not eligible for alternative military service programs in Korea.
Appointment
Start date: September 1, 2026
Duration: 2 years (through August 31, 2028)
Renewal: Possible extension for up to 2 additional years, subject to midterm evaluation
Compensation and Benefits
Salary: 4,500,000 KRW per month
Research funding: 20,000,000 KRW per year
Benefits: Institutional contribution to national insurance programs included
Severance: Provided for appointments of at least one year
Note: If the fellow receives salary support from external grants, compensation may be adjusted upon agreement.
