Position Description

The Centro de Investigación en Matemáticas (CIMAT: https://www.cimat.mx/), located in Guanajuato, Mexico, invites applications from researchers in the field of Statistics for a tenure-track position as Investigador Ordinario (Research Faculty). Candidates must hold a PhD in Science, obtained within the last fifteen years, in Statistics or related areas. They are expected to play an active role in strengthening and/or expanding our research lines, as well as enhancing the national and international reputation of our graduate programs. In particular, candidates should work in frontier areas of Statistics, such as complex and/or large-scale data analysis, complex models, computationally intensive methodologies, or at the intersection of these areas, considering both theory and applications. The selected candidate must demonstrate a strong commitment to both research and teaching, as well as to interdisciplinary collaboration and engagement with the public and private sectors, supported by CIMAT’s outreach infrastructure. In addition, the candidate is expected to contribute significantly to increasing the competitiveness of the department. The selected person will also be required to make substantial contributions to our undergraduate and graduate programs (https://www.cimat.mx/oferta-educativa/), teaching one course per semester at any of these levels. CIMAT is part of the network of public research centers of the Secretaría de Ciencias, Humanidades, Tecnología e Innovación (Secihti, https://secihti.mx/secihti/) and is organized into several research areas, including Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Probability and Statistics, and Computer Science. The Probability and Statistics group consists of nine researchers specializing in Probability and Stochastic Processes, and six in Statistics and its applications, distributed between the Guanajuato and Monterrey campuses. The department offers an excellent environment for the development of an academic career, particularly for early-career researchers. The group maintains numerous productive collaborations with leading institutions worldwide and is one of the most active research groups in Probability and Statistics in Latin America. Additionally, we provide extensive support for supervising undergraduate and graduate theses, collaboration in teaching and research, and strongly encourage interdisciplinary work.

At CIMAT, equal employment opportunities and workforce diversity are fundamental principles. We are committed to equity in academic career development and strongly encourage applications from individuals belonging to underrepresented groups in the field, particularly women.

Requirements Applicants must meet the following criteria: ● A strong academic research record demonstrating sustained productivity consistent with their career stage following completion of the PhD. ● For candidates residing in Mexico: membership in the Sistema Nacional de Investigadoras e Investigadores (SNII), or a profile that would allow admission in the next call, at least at Level I, consistent with their academic seniority. ● For candidates residing abroad: sustained research output and experience in training human resources consistent with the stage of their academic career. ● Teaching experience in Statistics and/or Probability is essential, including the ability to train students at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. Application Process The call will remain open until June 1st, when a first round of selection will begin. Interested candidates should submit an application addressed to Juan Carlos Pardo Millan, Coordinator of the Probability and Statistics Area, at positions.statistics@cimat.mx, including the following documents: ● Cover letter including a brief description of current research lines and willingness to present a seminar talk in Statistics. ● Updated Curriculum Vitae. ● Detailed research plan for the first two years and proposed research lines for a three-year period. ● Electronic copies of the candidate’s most relevant research publications. ● At least two letters of recommendation sent directly to positions.statistics@cimat.mx. ● Expected start date.
