Position Description

The new Collaborative Research Centre "Generalised Motivic Methods in Geometry" (DFG CRC 1785) at the University of Regensburg welcomes applications to PhD and postdoc positions for the first funding period (10/2026--06/2030).

• Most of the positions are based at the University of Regensburg. Depending on the projects/interests, some PhD students and postdocs are based at the other participating locations (Augsburg, Munich, Mainz, Hamburg). Interaction between the locations will be supported through hybrid options for joint events.

What we expect

• A solid background in at least one of the areas essential for the CRC, e.g., higher category theory, algebraic/arithmetic geometry, homotopy theory, geometric topology, measured group theory, Riemannian geometry, Lorentzian geometry, symplectic geometry.
• Interest in collaborating with other members and other fields within the CRC.
• No German language proficiency is required.

PhD positions

• PhD positions: 75% E13 positions (duration: three years; starting date 10/2026 or a few months later), without teaching obligation
• Required documents:
• cover letter, briefly summarising your mathematical interests and with whom/in which project you would like to work
• academic cv
• list of publications (if any)
• MSc thesis (or similar) if already available (otherwise a description of the MSc thesis project)
• university diplomas/certificates and transcripts of records (BSc/MSc, as far as available)
• contact details for two academic references; no reference letters are required at this stage.

Postdoc positions

• Postdoc positions: 100% E13 positions (flexible duration; one year up to the full funding period, ending in 06/2030; starting date: 10/2026 or a few months later), without teaching obligation.
• Required documents:
• cover letter, briefly summarising your mathematical interests and with whom/in which project you would like to work
• academic cv
• list of publications
• research statement
• PhD certificate (if already available; otherwise: expected date of completion)
• contact details for two academic references; no reference letters are required at this stage.
