The Department of Mathematics at Furman University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor level, beginning August 1, 2027. The successful candidate will primarily support the department's new data and decision analytics major, which emphasizes coursework and scholarship in statistics, operations research, probability, modeling, and simulation. Our department is particularly interested in candidates holding a Ph.D. in statistics, operations research, or industrial and systems engineering. Candidates with a Ph.D. in mathematics or applied mathematics are also welcome to apply. This position requires a demonstrated potential for superior teaching, the development of a strong program of scholarly and professional activity, effective institutional service, and an interest in mentoring undergraduate students both formally and informally. All applicants should demonstrate evidence of teaching and scholarship aligned with our data and decision analytics major. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in a relevant field by August 1, 2027. The Department of Mathematics at Furman University offers majors in applied mathematics, mathematics, mathematics-economics, and data and decision analytics. In addition, the department supports the university's data analytics minor. Faculty members teach a 3-2 course load, and members of the mathematics department have opportunities to participate in an internally funded summer research program with undergraduate students, develop on-campus and study-away MayX courses, and interact with internationally renowned mathematicians through our Clanton Lecture Series. Our strategic vision, The Furman Advantage, promises students an individualized four‐year pathway facilitated by a team of mentors and infused with a rich and varied set of high‐impact experiences outside the classroom, including undergraduate research, study away, internships, community‐focused learning, and opportunities to engage across disciplines. Furman University fosters a vibrant and inclusive community through excellence in teaching, mentorship, scholarship, and programming. We believe that cultural understanding, inclusiveness, and freedom of inquiry, thought, and discourse are essential components of a transformative undergraduate education. We advance these ideals with a liberal arts and sciences curriculum built on a substantial general education program, featuring traditional and innovative elements, and a robust portfolio of disciplinary and interdisciplinary majors and minors. Additionally, we have established and continue to develop various initiatives, including historic projects, dialogue programs such as On Discourse and the Intergroup Dialogues Program, the Center for Interpersonal Connections, and four distinctive external-facing institutes.
