Position Description

The An-Cockrell Lab in the Department of Surgery at the University of Vermont is looking to fill a funded position to develop computational/mechanistic biomedical digital twin models of the critical illness patient to be used for AI-guided therapeutic discovery. Job tasks will involve the development of computational modules representing specific organ systems or more global aspects of immunity and inflammation (e.g., the complement cascade). While the digital twin will be designed using an Agent-Based Modeling framework, alternative modeling techniques, such as differential equations, will be used to augment the primary model.

The ideal candidate will have completed a PhD in a quantitative discipline and have experience with mathematical/computational biology, though we will happily consider lower-level degrees with compensatory skills/experience. We anticipate that candidates with a PhD would be hired at the Faculty Scientist level while BS or MS degrees would be hired as a Research Scientist.

Required for submission: 1) CV 2) Cover letter 3) References (to be contacted at the end of the interview process)

Desired qualifications 1) Proficiency with Python and C++ 2) Experience with mathematical/computational modeling biomedical systems and/or physiology 3) Knowledge of PK/PD modeling techniques 4) Knowledge of Machine Learning techniques, ranging from genetic algorithms to deep reinforcement learning 5) An academic degree in a quantitative discipline 6) Willingness/ability to learn can substitute for any of the above!

Remote/Hybrid option is possible. Anticipated Salary is $115k/yr.
