The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Sam Houston State University seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position, beginning in the 2027 – 2028 academic year. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Mathematics or closely related field, a strong commitment to quality teaching, and be active in research. The position carries a standard teaching load of three courses each Fall and Spring semester. Other responsibilities include research in the field of mathematics, advising students, and service to the department, college and university. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Preference may be given to applicants whose research interests fall under the category of applied mathematics and/or those who have the background and passion for research in undergraduate mathematics, but strong applicants from all areas of mathematics are encouraged to apply. Sam Houston State University is a comprehensive public institution of higher education located in historic Huntsville, 60 miles north of Houston. The university has an enrollment of approximately 21,500 students. The Carnegie Commission on Higher Education classifies SHSU as a “Doctoral Research University.” The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has 28 tenured or tenure-track faculty in mathematics, mathematics education, and statistics. We offer BA, BS, MA and MS degrees in Mathematics, a BS degree in Data Science, and a MS degree in Statistics, along with several minors and certificate programs in these content areas. The department is actively involved in undergraduate research and developing innovative teaching methods that encourage students to be more actively engaged in the study of mathematics.
