The successful candidate will conduct research on the development of a fast, feature-based, and physics-informed data assimilation (DA) framework. The project aims to estimate the state of dynamical systems from sparse observational time series, combining data-driven approaches with high-fidelity and/or reduced-order models of the system. This position is jointly supported by an Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) grant (for research) and Departmental funds (for teaching). The application review begins on December 15th, 2026 and continues until the position is filled.
Key Responsibilities
- Research: Develop novel physics-informed machine learning and data assimilation methodologies for dynamical systems in close collaboration with Dr. Farazmand.
- Teaching: Teach one course per semester (two courses per academic year), with specific course assignments determined by the Assistant Department Head.
- Dissemination: Present research findings at academic conferences and publish high-impact work in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
