Postgraduate Teaching Assistant in Economics (Two Posts)

Part Time : 9.975 (27.3%FTE)

The appointment will be on UCL Grade 5. The salary range will be £14.64 per hour, plus a market supplement of £12.54 per hour, inclusive of London Allowance.

The UCL Departments of Mathematics and Statistical Science invite applications from candidates for two part-time Postgraduate Teaching Assistants in Economics. One position is based in the Department of Mathematics, and the other is based in the Department of Statistical Science. The teaching assistants will carry out teaching and assessment of economics modules taken by students either jointly studying Mathematics with Economics or Statistics, and Economics degree programmes. The modules (Economics 1 – Combined Studies and Economics 2 – Combined Studies) contain elements of both microeconomics and macroeconomics taught at introductory and intermediate undergraduate levels.

The successful candidates will be employed part-time, for 390 hour hours over the period of the contract, from 1 October 2019 to 30 June 2020. The appointees will be expected to teach nine one-hour support classes (comprising approximately 20-25 students each) every other week during Terms 1 and 2 – a total of 90 hours of classes; to mark coursework assignments, hold regular office hours, and keep records of attendance and coursework marks. It is expected that the role will entail 390 hours in total for preparation, marking and teaching over the duration of the contract.

The successful candidates are expected to have a relevant undergraduate qualification in economics or a related subject, and the ability to teach and supervise undergraduate economics students. Excellent communication and organisational skills are required. Strong candidates will have a PhD (or be working towards a PhD) in Economics or a related subject, and have experience of HE level teaching and administration.
