Scientific Computation Research Center, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY
Description: The Scientific Computation Research Center (www.scorec.rpi.edu), in collaboration
with the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Rensselaer, is seeking a highly
motivated individual to develop new efficient algorithms and simulation
techniques for application to space weather prediction. The successful
candidate will be jointly advised by Professors Mark Shephard and Jeffrey Banks
as part of an NSF CSSI project, and is expected to interact with other faculty
and students at Rensselaer, as well as computational physicists, computer scientist,
and applied mathematicians at partner universities.
Qualifications for consideration include:
- PhD in Computational
Physics, Computer/Computational Science, Applied Mathematics, or related
engineering or science discipline.
- Expertise in a subset of
the following:
- Development of high-order-accurate
numerical methods,
- Application of
computational techniques for plasma physics problems,
- Methods for simulation of
kinetic phenomena, and/or
- Structured adaptive meshing.
- Experience in parallel
programming and high performance computing with emphasis on next
generation HPC systems.
- Good knowledge of C, C++,
and/or FORTRAN programming languages and GNU/Linux operating system is
required.
