Mathematics Department

SUNY Cortland

 

POSITION: Two full-time tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant Professor rank in the Mathematics department beginning in fall 2018, one in applied mathematics (broadly defined) and one in statistics

 

START DATE:  09-01-2018

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Teach courses for mathematics majors and for non-majors; engage in research and other scholarly activities; provide service to the department and college; provide academic advisement and mentoring to majors in the department.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Earned doctorate in mathematical sciences expected by time of appointment; specialization in applied mathematics (broadly defined) for the first position and specialization in statistics for the second position; previous experience teaching college level mathematics; evidence of effectiveness in teaching; strong oral and written communication skills.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: For the applied mathematics position: Ability to also teach statistics courses; experience with educational technology; experience with obtaining external grants; experience directing student research projects; experience collaborating with colleagues from other departments

For the statistics position: Candidates with expertise in actuarial or financial mathematics are encouraged to apply. Experience with educational technology, obtaining external grants, directing student research projects, and collaboration with colleagues from other departments is also highly desirable.

 

THE DEPARTMENT: The Mathematics Department has approximately 150 undergraduate majors in either adolescence education or liberal arts mathematics.
