The Department of Mathematics at Johns Hopkins University seeks a full-time teaching faculty member to support the direction of its entry-level courses (precalculus through linear algebra and differential equations) as well as the broader undergraduate experience in mathematics. Our intention is for this to be a long-term hire. We anticipate an initial appointment at the rank of Senior Lecturer, and the position is eligible for eventual promotion to the rank of Associate or Full Teaching Professor.

Responsibilities will include instruction and instructional design, course coordination, curriculum and technology innovation, and participation in the delivery of professional development of instructors and TAs. We view this as a dynamic position: the successful candidate will join a team of teaching faculty who have significant latitude in the coming years to revise and re-imagine our existing program and who have already initiated substantive revision to better serve our undergraduate education mission. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in the mathematical sciences or mathematics education, as well as demonstrated excellence in teaching and teaching innovation. The position includes full benefits, including JHU's excellent college tuition benefit for dependent children.

We seek candidates with:
  • a record of excellence in teaching and teaching-related scholarly activities,
  • the intellectual curiosity to pursue novel and innovative methods of thinking and teaching,
  • a commitment to inclusive and student-centered pedagogy and teaching innovation,
  • an interest in establishing a long-term teaching career with the Department, and
  • the administrative, organizational, and mentoring skills required to coordinate large courses.
To apply, please submit a cover letter specific to this position, along with a curriculum vitae and teaching dossier. The dossier should at a minimum include a teaching portfolio, including a teaching statement, and a scholarship statement describing work and interest in the area of teaching and learning. Please also arrange the submission of four letters of recommendation, at least two of which address your teaching and leadership experience, and at least one of which addresses your mathematical background. Consideration of applications will begin on November 1, 2022, and will continue until the position is filled.

Johns Hopkins University is committed to active recruitment of a diverse faculty and student body. We are committed to conducting a broad and inclusive search for candidates who will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the JHU community. Consistent with the University's goals of achieving excellence in all areas, we will assess the comprehensive qualifications of each applicant.
