DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS Full-time Lecturer (non-tenure-track)

The Department of Mathematics at Tufts University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of Lecturer, starting September 1, 2022. The lecturer will have a 3-3 teaching load, where responsibilities in course development, organization, and coordination are arranged as course equivalents. This position requires organizing and administering Calculus I and II as the equivalent of two courses each year, resulting in teaching four classes per year plus the coordination responsibility. This faculty member’s additional responsibilities will include advising and mentoring undergraduate students, as well as and other administrative tasks associated with the undergraduate program. Lecturers are expected to participate in department, school, and university-wide service. There may be opportunities for (optional) teaching and mentoring activities in the summer.

Qualifications The successful candidate must hold a doctoral degree in a relevant field, such as mathematics or applied mathematics, by the time the position begins. University-level teaching and advising experience is required. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to creative and student-centered teaching as well as a track record of outreach and mentorship with diverse student populations. Ideally, the candidate will have experience participating in and organizing large service level courses such as Calculus. In particular, the job requires technological experience with platforms such as or similar to Canvas and Gradescope, as well electronic homework platforms. Applicants should have a versatile teaching portfolio and demonstrate the ability and willingness to teach courses such as Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations.

Application Instructions All applications must be submitted via mathjobs at https://www.mathjobs.org/jobs/list/19499. Applicants should submit the following: a) cover letter; b) statement of teaching and advising experience; c) a list of courses that the applicant would like to teach, with a short description of the proposed pedagogical approach for each; and d) curriculum vitae. The teaching statement should address course development experience and can address research to the extent that it will provide opportunities for advising student research projects. In addition, applicants should arrange to have three confidential letters of recommendation submitted directly to Mathjobs, with at least two focused on teaching. Our department is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and candidates should address, across their materials, how they promote these priorities in their professional career.

Questions about the application process should be directed to Department Chair Kim Ruane at Kim.Ruane@tufts.edu.
