About the Department

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science (http://www.math.umsl.edu) has about 30 full-time faculty members and about 20 doctoral students. At the undergraduate level we offer degrees in mathematics and computer science, and in cooperation with the College of Education an undergraduate degree in secondary education with an emphasis in mathematics. We also offer minors in computer science, mathematics, and statistics, and certificates in Actuarial Studies, Data Science, Internet and Web, Mobile Apps and Ubiquitous Computing, and in cooperation with the department of Information Systems a joint certificate in Cybersecurity. At the graduate level, we offer a master's in mathematics with an emphasis in mathematics or data science and a master's in computer science as well as a doctoral program in mathematical and computational sciences with options in mathematics, computer science, and statistics.

About the Position

The Department invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Mathematics, beginning Fall 2020. The position is limited to candidates with expertise in the field of Statistics with application in Data Science. Qualified candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science or a closely related discipline by the time of the appointment. Salary is competitive and dependent upon qualifications.

We are looking for applicants with potential or proven ability to conduct outstanding research, and with strong commitment to teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Our department houses a variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees, including a BS in Mathematics degree with specialization on Data Science and a MA in Mathematics degree with specialization in Data Science. The department is also actively working with the College of Arts and Sciences in the development of a new inter-departmental multi- disciplinary Data Science/Analytics program. The candidate will be expected to actively participate in the development and expanding of these Data Science oriented programs, at both, department and college level.
