Position Summary

The successful candidate will work with multi-disciplinary teams to develop, coordinate, and teach data science courses for MS students with diverse technical backgrounds, including students who are currently employed in industry. The successful candidate will take a leading role in managing the MSDS. This includes recruiting students into the program, and more generally promoting the program through their own contacts/distribution lists and those of team lead and other team members. It includes discussing with lead instructional team how to help all MSDS program instructors develop high-quality course materials, including ensuring that program instructors have adequate proficiency in synchronous and asynchronous online teaching, and that materials are made available for asynchronous online learning. The successful candidate will also communicate with program instructors to ensure that adequate assessments of student learning outcomes are deployed. The successful candidate will take a leading role, as part of a team, in creating capstone projects for the MSDS. This position will join a large and active group of teaching faculty focused on instructional excellence in the mathematical and computational sciences. The successful candidate will be the primary point of contact for students in the MSDS for all their advising needs, helping them navigate the various elective courses (9 elective credits out of a total of 30 credits). The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating the admissions process into the MSDS.

The successful candidate will be expected to devote 50% to 65% of their effort to instruction in the program or related courses, which corresponds to teaching three to four 3-credit courses per year, and the remainder of their effort to administration.

Required Degree

Doctorate -Any field relevant to data science

Minimum Requirements

Instructional excellence at the undergraduate and/or MS level, a demonstrated commitment to creating an inclusive and equitable learning environment, and experience with student-centered pedagogical methods.

Desired Qualifications

Some industrial experience in data science is highly desirable. This experience may have been acquired in an industrial setting, in a data scientist role, or in an academic setting, in a collaborative role working with industry partners on data science problems.

Strong candidates will have documented managerial and/or administrative skills in an industrial or academic setting.
