Slippery Rock University invites applications for a highly motivated full-time tenure-track faculty member to direct our Actuarial Science program. The teaching load is twelve credits per semester of undergraduate courses or nine credits per semester of graduate courses. Faculty will be expected to maintain a scholarly agenda. The successful candidate must be committed to excellence in teaching, service, and scholarly growth, and be able to teach a variety of courses ranging from service courses to advanced actuarial science and related courses. Highly competitive salary, benefits, and rank commensurate with experience level will be provided.

A PhD in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or other related Actuarial Science field with successful completion of at least three SOA/CAS exams prior to employment is required. A credentialed actuary is preferred; others must be committed to working to become credentialed. Evidence of a research agenda must be provided. Candidates must have outstanding communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work collaboratively. A commitment to the education of diverse populations and successful performance in an on campus interview, including teaching demonstration, are required.

Additional preference will be given to applicants that can demonstrate the ability to contribute to and expand the department's statistics and data analytics programs, especially our award-winning online Master of Science program in data analytics. Prior college level teaching experience and experience conducting faculty-student research are also preferred. Exceptional qualities include experience in, or willingness to learn, non-traditional, active learning pedagogies, and the use of modern instructional delivery systems.

Slippery Rock University’s actuarial science program has been active for over 30 years and has a current enrollment of over fifty students. Our program provides the coursework for five exams and VEE credit in all three areas. We have an active Actuarial Club and seminar series.
