Simons Postdoctoral Associate in Wave Turbulence

This postdoctoral position is part of the Simons Collaboration on Wave Turbulence. This collaboration is a joint effort of several groups of researchers in mathematics and physics, in the US and the EU, for a systematic coordinated study of wave turbulence in a large scale project. This is an opportunity for junior researchers to join and be part of this significant research effort. The research includes many areas in pure and applied math, as well as theoretical and experimental physics. More information about this collaborative effort can be found on the website

This non-tenure-track position may be renewed annually for up to three years, and is designed to provide mathematicians with favorable circumstances for academic career development in research and teaching. The postdoctoral associate (PDA) will engage in mathematical research under the supervision of Principal Investigator Zaher Hani ( on problems related to the research agenda of the collaboration. The PDA's duties also include participating in bi-annual meetings and summer schools and contributing to the overall activities of the Collaboration both at Michigan and during the Collaboration's meetings and workshops.

The position carries a reduced teaching load of two semester courses per year. Some funds will be provided to support some research expenses (travel, etc.). Applications must be complete by December 1, 2019 to receive full consideration. However, we will still accept new applications until December 31, 2019.

REQUIRED: Ph.D. in mathematics or physics with a research background in one or more of the following areas: harmonic analysis, PDE, probability, numerical analysis, math physics and dynamical systems. Candidates must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to travel and present research results. At least two letters of recommendation addressing the research potential of the candidate, and a letter containing information about the candidate's teaching experience need to be submitted.
