The Department of Mathematics at Spelman College invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions to begin August 2023: one at the assistant professor level and one at the assistant or associate professor level. While all areas of mathematics and statistics will be considered, at least one of the two positions is designated to be in applied and/or computational mathematics or statistics. The rank of associate professor will only be considered for highly qualified candidates with demonstrated expertise and/or leadership experience in data science research and curricular initiatives. We seek outstanding teacher/scholars dedicated to excellence in the mathematical sciences. Persons with a background in applied mathematics are especially encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will have a doctorate in mathematics, statistics, or a closely related area, and will be able to: teach a broad range of courses offered in the department, from college algebra and calculus to upper level major courses; teach effectively using a variety of instructional techniques, especially those that foster active engagement in class; provide high quality instruction and prepare instructional materials for courses; work with a diverse group of students, and work collaboratively with department colleagues to help maintain a collegial work environment. Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to working with women and underrepresented minority students through teaching, mentoring, and research are especially encouraged to apply. Review of applications will begin on December 1, 2022, and will continue until the positions are filled.

Required Qualifications: 1. A Ph.D. in the mathematical sciences or statistics by July 2023. 2. Demonstrated potential for excellence in research and teaching. 3. Demonstrated understanding of the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusiveness in the mathematics community.
