The Atlantic association for research in the Mathematical Sciences is advertising a postdoctoral fellowship with duties in outreach, communication, and research.

The postdoctoral fellow will spend 50% of their duties on research and 50% on outreach and communication on behalf of AARMS, see job description below.

The academic supervisor of the PDF must be a member of a math department in Nova Scotia and be able to support the candidate by providing at least $15,000 toward the postdocā€™s salary. The minimum salary of the postdoc will be $45,000 per year. Interested candidates are strongly encouraged to contact their proposed supervisor before submitting the application.

The outreach and communication duties of the position consist of the following:

  • Assist with outreach activities across Atlantic Canada (coordination, publication and execution, as is feasible);

  • Maintain and extend the outreach part of the AARMS website, aarms.math.ca/outreach/

  • Maintain AARMS communication with the mathematical community in Atlantic Canada through newsletter reports;

  • Update the AARMS twitter account;

  • Help prepare outreach related funding applications for AARMS;

  • Be the first point of contact for people contacting AARMS in regard to outreach.

The outreach postdoc should have received their PhD before the start of this fellowship, but not more than four years before it. They should have strong research skills, an interest in and experience with math outreach, good social and organizational skills, ability to communicate with teachers, administrators and researchers, have experience with event coordination, have strong proposal and report writing skills, and be a visionary.

Advantageous but not necessary are the following: experience with html
and design programs, and experience in fundraising with corporations and government bodies.

Terms of employment will conform to postdoctoral fellowship positions
at the university where the postdoc will be located. The position is for one year, preferably starting January 2018, but a later start date before October 1, 2018 can be arranged. The position is renewable for a second year subject to budgetary approval.
