The Millennium Nucleus Stochastic Models of Complex and Disordered Systems invites applications for one (1) postdoctoral position to be held in Santiago, Chile. The appointment begins between March and August 2018 (the precise starting date is flexible) and is for two (2) years.

The nucleus is a research group composed of five associate investigators from Universidad Católica de Chile (Manuel Cabezas, Alejandro Ramírez and Christian Sadel) and of Universidad de Chile (Joaquín Fontbona and Daniel Remenik), plus young researchers, postdocs and students from these and other Chilean universities. The group is funded by a generous grant from the program Iniciativa Científica Milenio of the Chilean government.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in mathematics and a strong background and research promise in probability. The main research areas of the nucleus are random walks in random media, the KPZ universality class, interacting particle systems and random Shrödinger operators. The position does not require teaching and is geared towards providing the postdoctoral researcher with the tools to develop an independent, though collaborative, research program.

The salary is approx. 1.800.000 Chilean pesos per month (about USD$2.850 at current exchange rates). The postdoctoral position will be based either at the Facultad de Matemáticas, Universidad Católica de Chile or the Centro de Modelamiento Matemático, Universidad de Chile. Successful candidates will be asked to apply (between May and August 2018) to postdoctoral grants from the Chilean science funding agency (CONICYT), which offer additional benefits for the development of their research.

Applicants should send a curriculum vitae (including a list of publications) and a research statement through the mathjobs system. Additionally, they should arrange for three (3) letters of recommendation to be sent on their behalf through the mathjobs system. For full consideration, application materials should be received by January 15, 2018.
