The Department of Mathematics at Xavier University of Louisiana invites applications for a tenure-track full time assistant/associate professor of Mathematics as a Early level Math Coordinator starting August 2023. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Mathematics or related field (e.g., mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics) with a background in education research. The ideal candidate will oversee the coordination and supervision of instructors and lecturers in developmental and early level mathematics courses and serve as the curriculum coordinator for developmental mathematics courses. In addition, the ideal candidate will work alongside the department faculty to develop goals and curricula; and design, implement, and assess the success of developmental mathematics courses. The department is seeking a candidate who is engaged in active learning and student success in mathematics courses. The ideal candidate will be responsible for teaching entry level math courses (including developmental math) and have a record of successful experience with diverse groups of students. The candidate’s experiences should reflect an understanding of the impacts of race, ethnicity, and other identities on the lives and experiences of students. The department is particularly interested in candidates with pedagogical theories and practices in the classroom, as well as experience with instructional technology. Preferences will be given to candidates with experience in a similar position and who possess a solid understanding of undergraduate education and who are committed to developing an innovative, content-based curriculum designed at the university level.

Duties:

• Teach undergraduate entry level math courses. Mode of instruction may include in-person, hybrid, remote, and/or any combination thereof.

• Advise and mentor undergraduate students.

• Coordinate developmental mathematics courses.

• Participate in service activities for the department, university, and community.

• Ph.D. in mathematics or related field (e.g., mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics) with background in education research at time of application;

• Ability to develop and teach face-to-face as well as online classes;

• Evaluate and research effective teaching methodologies to improve student success in mathematics courses;

• Advanced training beyond the Ph.D., e.g. Post-doc, industry, etc.;

• Ongoing commitment to pedagogical innovation; and

• Experience teaching at the college level in both traditional and online environments.

The Department of Mathematics at Xavier University of Louisiana values teaching and research as essential components of education.
