FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Department of Mathematics at Lehman College CUNY invites applications for a full-time lecturer position beginning in the Fall 2023 semester. The successful candidate will teach large- sized sections of critical entry-point math courses (eg. Precalculus and Intro. Statistics); they will also be expected to instruct intermediate/advanced undergraduate Mathematics courses intended for Department majors. Service responsibilities will include the following: course coordination; course assessment; developing, reviewing, and modifying existing practices in the delivery of content in entry-point math courses; actively participating in grant funding activities; and engaging in math-related events and courses across the College and its programs. Evening teaching will likely be required.

The Lehman College campus is located in Bronx, New York and is a Senior College within the City University of New York (CUNY) system. Lehman is a four-year public college in the Bronx and is recognized as a Hispanic Serving Institution. The college serves mainly undergraduate students preparing them for employment, the professions and further study. The teaching load is currently 24 hours (roughly 6 courses) per year. Service to the college, university and community is part of the mission as is a clear commitment to student engagement including advisement. Opportunities are available for faculty development and travel awards. Lehman College and CUNY internal funding is available through competitive grants for scholarship and professional development support.

QUALIFICATIONS

Rank of Lecturer:

Bachelor's degree in Mathematics or a strongly related field, and the ability to teach successfully.

Preferred Qualifications:

MA in Mathematics, or a strongly related field; educational experience beyond the Master’s level (eg. work towards a doctoral degree); substantial teaching experience at the College level; a demonstrated track-record of successful teaching practices.

Rank of Lecturer/Doctoral Schedule:

Ph.D. in Mathematics or a closely related, and the ability to teach successfully.

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.

COMPENSATION

Lecturer = $83,764 -$87,004

Lecturer Doctoral = $84,404 -$88,998

Commensurate with education and experience.

Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022 City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.

After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period.

If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.

Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the EmblemHealth website.
