We are in particular searching for candidates with documented research activity within the following areas

In 2019 the Department of Mathematics underwent a strategy review, resulting in 10 specific strategic goals being set for the period 2020—2025. See here. With this call we want to add two new researchers to the scientific staff that can contribute to a stimulating environment, helping the department meet its strategic goals by the year 2025.

The Department of Mathematics currently employs 34 permanent scientific staff members within the traditional mathematical disciplines and stochastics. The Department of Mathematics houses an applied Statistics Laboratory, is a stakeholder in DIGIT, "Centre for Digitalisation, Big Data and Data Analytics", and has collaborations with BiRC, "Bioinformatics Research Centre", and CREATES, "Center for Research in Econometric Analysis of Time Series".

The successful candidate should have:
  • A record of original scientific contributions to one of the areas listed above.
  • A track record of independent and collaborative research.
  • A documented ability and interest in taking responsibility for teaching at all levels.
  • Obtained, or the convincing potential to obtain, external funding for research activities.
  • The potential to help the department meet its strategic goals.

The successful candidate is expected to:
  • Shine in international collaborative research.

  • Supervise/co-supervise students at all levels from Bachelor to PhD.
  • Build and sustain a research group around her/himself through external funding.
  • Contribute towards the department’s strategic goals.

What the Department of Mathematics, the city of Aarhus as well as Denmark can offer the successful candidate:
  • A typical teaching load of 4-5 hours of lectures per week during the semester, plus project supervision.
  • Administrative support and professional guidance for submitting grant applications.
  • A positive and international work environment with a flat hierarchy.
  • Subsidized preschool child care and a free education system from primary school up to university level.
  • Universal health insurance as a resident of Denmark, including family members officially residing in Denmark.
  • Five weeks paid holiday per year.
  • In connection with child birth: the right to have a total of 52 weeks shared maternal/paternal leave with full or partial salary pay.

We encourage all applicants to apply. Ensuring gender balance at the Department of Mathematics is a high priority at Aarhus University, and we particularly encourage women to apply for this position. No candidate will be given preferential treatment, and all applicants will be assessed on the basis of their qualifications for the position in question.

Note that female applicants would automatically contribute towards one of the department’s strategic goals, which is to improve gender balance.

The positions will be re-posted if there is a well-grounded presumption that a second advertisement will attract a more diverse and qualified pool of applicants.

The applicants may upload up to ten key publications with the application. While the assessment committee will evaluate the overall scientific achievements of all shortlisted candidates, the committee can only be expected to look into individual scientific results amongst those contained in publications submitted with the application.
