3-year PhD position: Data-driven multi-layer network approaches to quantifying systemic risk and resilience

We search for an excellent young scientist with a master’s degree or equivalent in physics, mathematics, computer science, or related fields. Ideally, you already have experience in working with financial network data and are eager to extend your knowledge in network analysis, data mining, and machine learning.

We offer a fully funded 3-year PhD position (the salary follows PhD-rates according to Austrian Science Fund rates) in an internationally renowned research group located at CSH Vienna, Austria. We provide an exciting, creative environment free of bureaucratic constraints for open-minded visionaries who are brave enough to step out of mainstream science.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on the understanding of the origin and spreading of resilience and systemic risk in multi-layer networks. In particular, we want to explore how an understanding of financial multi-layer networks helps to quantify and ultimately manage systemic risk resilience. You have proven your ability to independently carry out data-intensive research as exemplified by your past works that showcase your strong programming and mathematical skills? You have a critical, open-minded, entrepreneurial, and collaborative spirit? You are proficient in English both written and spoken?

Then send your application to office@csh.ac.at with the subject line: “PhD Application ‘Quantifying Systemic Risk’” until February 28, 2019.

Please include
- a CV and list of publications
- a detailed research statement: Why do you think you are an excellent candidate?
- any additional material showing your mathematical excellence, computational skills, and creativity - name(s) and full contact address(es) of at least one individual that is willing to write a letter of reference for you.
