The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (Fred Hutch) invites applicants for an open full-time faculty position at the assistant or associate professor level in the Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, and Epidemiology (BBE) Program of the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Division (VIDD). The successful candidate will conduct a dynamic research program consisting of independent projects and collaborative studies pertinent to our mission to develop effective prevention interventions against HIV, as well as against other infectious diseases including COVID-19. We seek candidates with demonstrated methodological and/or applied statistical science skills who will focus on the design and analysis of infectious disease studies that often involve immunology and virology data and who seek to innovate and to become leaders within their field. Candidates interested in infectious disease research without direct previous experience in this area are encouraged to apply. For consideration, the candidate must hold a PhD or equivalent degree in biostatistics, statistics, or a related area.

Applying an innovative multidisciplinary approach, VIDD houses three formal research programs that systematically pursue explicit goals aimed at eliminating the burden of death and disease from infection. These programs include Biostatistics, Bioinformatics and Epidemiology; Immunology and Vaccine Development; and Infectious Disease Sciences. Historically, BBE biostatistics faculty have carried out integrated research programs that both (1) provide statistical science leadership for landmark infectious disease prevention studies such as vaccine efficacy trials, HIV prevention efficacy trials, and vaccine-related epidemiological studies, and (2) develop innovative statistical methods that improve the science for these studies. Much of this research is conducted through networks or consortia including the HIV Vaccine Trials Network, the HIV Prevention Trials Network, and the Center for Inference and Dynamics of Infectious Diseases. Over the past two years, BBE biostatistics faculty have led the Statistical Center for the Coronavirus Prevention Network, with several landmark COVID-19 clinical trials being launched and now yielding fertile data sets and open questions for interrogation from new biostatistics faculty.

Fred Hutch’s biostatistics, computational biology, dynamical modeling, virology and immunology communities are highly collaborative, supportive, and collegial, operating within a vibrant Seattle scientific community. Excellent collaborative opportunities exist for joint and/or affiliate appointments in Fred Hutch Divisions of Clinical Research, Basic Sciences, Human Biology or Public Health Sciences, as well as at the University of Washington, depending on mutual interests.

At Fred Hutch, we believe that the innovation, collaboration, and rigor that result from diversity and inclusion are critical to our mission of eliminating cancer and infectious diseases. We seek faculty who bring different and innovative ways of seeing the world and solving problems. Fred Hutch is in pursuit of becoming an antiracist organization. We are committed to ensuring that all faculty hired share our commitment to diversity, antiracism, and inclusion.

Application Instructions Interested candidates should submit a CV, a concise research plan statement, a diversity statement describing your past contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion and your future plans for continuing these efforts (two pages or less), and the names and contact information for three (3) references.

Applications should be received by October 31, 2021 to assure consideration. Later applications will also be considered if the position has not been filled.
