The successfully recruited candidate will conduct both Research and Teaching Activity to a level compatible with the standards of Sorbonne Université (SU). In particular, she/he is expected to nurture her/his Research network and to actively engage in the Research Themes developed around the Laboratory for Non-Destructive Characterization opening in September 2021.

From a teaching point of view, the new Faculty member will be mainly engaged in teaching courses in Atomic and molecular physics, Spectroscopy, X-Ray diffraction and fluorescence, and Material characterization, offered in the Master in Physics – Specialization in Non-Destructive Characterization with Applications for Cultural Heritage, opening in September 2021 and, to a lesser extent, in the Bachelor in Physics. It is worthwhile noting that the programs are designed by Sorbonne Université – Faculté des Sciences in France, while courses are delivered exclusively in English. The programs follow the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), and the diplomas are awarded by SU. All high-profile candidates with a Physics or Material Science background will be considered even if special attention will be given to those who specialize in spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction.

From a research perspective, the Faculty will participate to the development of the newly open Laboratory for Non-Destructive Characterization and will develop collaborations in the field of Non-Destructive Characterization applied to Cultural Heritage, more specifically in the UAE.

In accordance with published faculty workload guidelines, the Faculty will also participate in the continual development of the curriculum. She/he will also collaborate with faculty members, in promoting the department’s activities on local, regional and international levels, serve on committees, and participate in the life of the University. The candidate will report to the Head of Department.

Teaching hours and responsibilities

• Nine teaching hours per week (section course/credit hours) per semester at bachelor level (234 hours per academic year). • Four office hours per week. • Development of research projects. • Supervision of students (projects, academic advising). • Contribution to students' growth and development. • Participation to students’ recruitment events. • Participation in the assessment activities of the Department, School, and University. • Serve on committees. • Participation in or organization of Department and University events. • Collaboration with local institutions.

Profile (Minimum Qualifications, Minimum Experience, Job Specific Skills) • Holder of Doctorate (PhD) in Physics or Material Science or related area and CNU credentials, or comparable recognition (especially for candidates from outside the French academic system). • Excellent academic background and recognized experience in teaching at the university level for an undergraduate academic program. A minimum of 5 years of experience is required. • Proven record (or demonstrated potential) for outstanding curriculum development, teaching Physics, and professional service. • Demonstrated international recognition in own research field.

Minimum Qualifications: PhD in Physics or Material Science or related fields

Minimum Experience: 5 years at university level

Job-Specific Skills: Scholarly activities or research. • Evaluation and review of courses on a regular basis. • Students counselling. • Team work. • Ability to teach and work with persons from culturally diverse backgrounds. • Languages: English is mandatory, French is recommended, and knowledge of Arabic is an added value

Conditions • Starting date: August 2021 • Local limited three years contract in accordance with the UAE law, renewable.
