The Auton Lab, part of Carnegie Mellon University's School of Computer Science invites applications for a postdoctoral research position. The Auton Lab researches new approaches to Statistical Data Mining with the keen interest in mathematical foundations and applications to detection and exploitation of patterns in data. A Ph.D. or an equivalent in mathematics, physics, computer science, or machine learning is required.

We are looking for candidates with a strong background in areas related to computational geometry, convex analysis and optimization, information theory, numerical linear algebra, and representation theory. Candidates with other backgrounds which are useful for our current research effort can also be considered.

Strong computer skills are essential. Effective communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team are required.

The initial Postdoctoral Associate appointment will be for 1 year, with an option to extend if funding is available and performance is satisfactory. The candidate is not expected to teach.
