Position Description: The Department of Mathematics at Cleveland State University has an opening for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Topology, Algebra, or Geometry. The starting date of the appointment is August 20, 2018. The Department of Mathematics offers B.S., B.A., and M.S degrees in Mathematics, and an M.S. in Mathematics with a Specialization in Applied Statistics. The University, College of Sciences and Health Professions, and Department seek to attract an active, culturally and academically diverse faculty of the highest caliber. The successful applicant is expected to carry out an active program of research in Topology, Algebra, or Geometry, to seek external funding, and to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in mathematics. The successful applicant will also be expected to participate in department, college, and university service. 

Minimum Qualifications: A Ph.D. in mathematics earned or anticipated by July 1, 2018; an active research program in Topology, Algebra, or Geometry; strong communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications: A strong research program in Topology, Algebra, or Geometry; a specialization in applied topology, broadly interpreted, or in algebraic geometry, or in commutative algebra; research that fits well with or overlaps with the Department’s existing areas of research strength; a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring students; experience with innovative methods of instruction and assessment; a research agenda open to across-campus and off-campus collaborations; evidence of a substantial contribution to a successful academic event, initiative, or ongoing activity; evidence of effective communication and interpersonal skills; the ability to contribute through teaching or service to the diversity, cultural sensitivity, and excellence of the academic community.
