Position Summary:
The Mathematics Department at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level, to start September 1, 2023. The successful candidate will teach general education mathematics and statistics courses and upper-level courses in statistics and take a leading role in the department's curriculum development efforts in the area of data science. Courses will be taught at the Oshkosh campus but with the expectation of contribution to all campuses and course delivery modes (in-person, online [synchronous/asynchronous], and hybrid). In addition, the candidate selected will maintain active programs of scholarly research and publication in statistics, data science, or a related field, and provide service to the department, college, university, and the profession.

Responsibilities:
  • Teach general education mathematics and statistics courses and upper-level courses in statistics.
  • Take a leading role in the department's curriculum development efforts in the area of data science.
  • Set up and maintain an active research program producing peer-reviewed scientific publications.
  • Participate in governance of the department, college, and university.
  • Embrace the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion as a member of the three-campus university community.
Qualifications
Required:
  • A Ph.D. in Statistics or Data Science, or a Ph.D. in Mathematics with a thesis topic in Statistics, Data Science, or a related field (degree earned by the start of the appointment).
  • Background and/or experience necessary to teach undergraduate statistics and/or mathematics (may include graduate TA experience).
  • A demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and student success.
  • A well-articulated agenda for scholarship and professional development, including peer-reviewed research.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Preferred:
  • At least two years teaching experience at the university level (may include graduate TA experience).
  • Evidence of ability to design and develop new courses utilizing a variety of teaching modalities and pedagogies.
  • Expertise in data-driven courses, data analytics, or data science.
  • Experience mentoring and/or advising undergraduate and graduate students such as guiding undergraduate research projects or facilitating workshops.
