The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Swarthmore College is looking for an Academic Support Coordinator. This person works to support student learning in introductory courses in the department by administering and participating in a program of academic support services. The Coordinator will work collaboratively with the department's faculty and students to initiate, maintain, and promote activities that provide students with resources that enable them to better achieve academic success.

Essential Responsibilities: • Oversee student support services, including supervision and training of mentors and tutors • Work with faculty and use current college software to hire student mentors, tutors, and graders • Keep track of student worker hours and other expenses to stay within budget • Share student support service usage data with faculty • Proactively monitor student progress in introductory courses and intervene when needed • Attend introductory classes on a regular basis to provide constructive feedback to faculty, assist with group work, and observe and interact with students • Provide individual and group instruction to students struggling in introductory courses; Work with the Math/Stat first-year advisor to oversee placement and advising for first-year students; Assist in assessment efforts to discover and remediate potential barriers to underrepresented groups in the department • Collect data and create assessments of support services • Work with the Dean’s Office and other science departments to ensure coordination and efficiency of efforts with other academic support services • Work closely with faculty in introductory courses to adjust substance and form of support in those courses • Communicate regularly with faculty around issues of student progress and support • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree with two to three years of job-related experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. • Working knowledge of calculus and linear algebra • Strong oral and written communication skills with ability to present department support services to large groups of students, faculty, and other support staff. • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate with faculty and students and to oversee student workers. • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines. • Ability to manage multiple tasks. • Ability to manage and analyze quantitative information. • Availability one or more evenings per week.

Preferred Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics. • Experience in mathematics instruction or general education.
