Mary Baldwin University's Mathematics Department invites applications for a fixed term, renewable position at the assistant or associate professor level. Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience. Our ideal candidate is committed to active and engaged teaching at every level of the undergraduate curriculum, including supervision of undergraduate thesis research by senior math majors. Fields of specialization are open and should complement existing faculty expertise in logic and algebraic topology (with interest in applications of math in computer science) to cover a fairly broad curriculum in a small department. Experience with differentiation of instruction to reach a wide variety of students will be valuable. Scholarship related to or interest in applied mathematical fields is an advantage, especially those that relate to data science and applied computer science and could bolster plans for a data analysis program. Primary responsibilities include teaching seven courses per year, academic advising of students, and service to the university to support shared governance. The new hire will be expected to maintain an active program of scholarly engagement appropriate to the discipline. Qualifications: PhD and previous college-level teaching experience preferred (ABD considered). Mary Baldwin University is an intentionally diverse educational community, with a vibrant population of over 2,000 undergraduate and graduate students in its residential and online programs. More than fifty percent of MBU’s residential undergraduates are students of color and the University aspires to develop a faculty, staff, and curriculum that reflect its demographic. The University places a high priority on the cultivation of a community in which all students are both seen and heard. We seek and encourage applications from members of groups underrepresented in higher education and with academic experience with diverse student bodies. Above all, Mary Baldwin seeks candidates eager to embrace and empower an ethic of equity, diversity, and inclusivity. Interested applicants should send a letter of application that addresses interest in and qualifications for the position as well as commitment to equity and inclusion in the context of higher education. The letter, current curriculum vitae, and names of three references may be sent to mathsearch@marybaldwin.edu. All applications received by January 10, 2022 will receive full consideration. |
