The Department of Mathematics at Iowa State University invites applications for up to two tenure-track faculty positions. The department seeks to hire one faculty at the rank of assistant professor and one faculty at the open-rank of assistant, associate, or full professor with research expertise in an area related to data science, including (but not limited to) applied topology, probability, numerical analysis, optimization, and graph/network theory, with a start date of August 16, 2018. In addition to an active research program, the candidate will be responsible for teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level, and will be involved in the development and implementation of ISU’s new undergraduate degree program in data science. The successful candidate will have a strong research portfolio, excellent credentials in both undergraduate- and graduate-level teaching, and will be expected to obtain external funding.

Qualifications Required: A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, or a related discipline. Demonstrated potential for superior achievement in interdisciplinary research and an ability to collaborate with researchers in data science. Excellent teaching record as evidenced by peer and/or student evaluations. Preferred: Additional years of experience beyond the Ph.D., normally achieved through a postdoctoral position.
