Position Description
Visiting Assistant Professor in Mathematical Sciences The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, invites applicants for a one-year visiting faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the Department of Mathematical Sciences, beginning fall 2022. Located in beautiful and historic Charleston, S.C., The Citadel is a fully accredited, public, comprehensive, co-educational college with a student body of about 2300 undergraduate students who make up the South Carolina Corps of Cadets and another 1000 students who attend The Citadel Graduate College, a civilian evening and online program that offers graduate and professional degrees as well as undergraduate programs. For the past eleven years, U.S. News and World Report has ranked The Citadel as the top public college in the South among masters granting institutions.
The Department of Mathematical Sciences offers the Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics; undergraduate minors in applied mathematics and applied statistics, and graduate courses supporting the Master of Arts in teaching mathematics offered by the Zucker Family School of Education.
Position Responsibilities
Teaching responsibilities include the calculus sequence for STEM majors. A normal teaching load is fifteen credit hours per week with small class sizes (The Citadel’s student-to-faculty ratio is 11:1 and the average undergraduate class size is 20).
Required Qualifications
An earned doctoral degree in Mathematics or closely-related field from an accredited institution. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, and be committed to The Citadel’s core values of honor, duty, and respect.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience and demonstrated excellence in teaching.
