The successful applicant (m/f/d) is expected to strengthen the research priorities of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science by establishing an independent research
group and to actively participate in research alliances and existing collaborative research
initiatives of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science as well as in the overall
research priorities of the University of Marburg. We are looking for a highly qualified, internationally visible scientist with outstanding scientific achievements and an independent scientific profile that demonstrates the potential for
a further successful career in science at the highest international level. The person to be
appointed should be an expert in the development and mathematical analysis of methods for
scientific (high performance) computing. The ideal candidate will be a renowned specialist in
numerical and applied analysis of models, inverse problems (e.g., in (medical) imaging), numerical analysis of partial differential equations or variational models. There is a particular
interest in areas that establish cross-references between existing research groups and
strengthen the scientific network within the department and the University of Marburg. Experience in initiating, acquiring and carrying out third-party funded projects and a high motivation to cooperate with other disciplines and departments of the University of Marburg are
required. The professorship is responsible for providing coursework in the areas of expertise mentioned
above, especially in numerical analysis. In addition, the individual is expected to participate
in the basic mathematics education of students in the bachelor’s and master’s programs of
the department as well as in the training of secondary school teachers in mathematics, busi-
ness mathematics, and data science. The conditions of employment are subject to § 67 and § 68 Hessisches Hochschulgesetz
(HessHG). The successful candidate will be expected to teach in German after a maximum of
two years of employment. The Philipps-Universität Marburg places great importance on the
intensive mentoring of students and doctoral candidates; therefore, a regular presence of the
teaching staff is required. We actively support an increase of the number of female professors and therefore we particularly encourage female candidates to apply. Applicants with children are welcome. The
Philipps-Universität Marburg positions itself as a family-friendly university. In case of equal
