The Department of Mathematics at Ohio University invites applications for a full time Assistant Professor of Instruction in Mathematics beginning in Fall 2023. The position is not tenure track, but it is renewable yearly assuming continuing need and satisfactory performance, with long-term contracts and promotion to Associate Professor of Instruction possible after five years. 80% of effort will be in teaching, with focus on teaching and coordinating MATH 1500 Introductory Statistics, which is both a general education course and a preparatory course for other statistics courses. This effort includes coordinating multiple class sections and supervising graduate teaching assistant instructors. 20% of effort will be in service, with focus on helping design an effective and sustainable assessment process for our service courses, working with other course coordinators on implementation and maintenance of the process within our department to ensure these courses are effective, and working with other units on campus to make sure our service courses remain aligned with the needs of client departments. The department has a broad mission, from teaching general education classes through mentoring doctoral students and conducting research.
