The selected candidate will work under the direction of Assistant Professor Jiayin Pan (for research duties) and the Department Chair (for teaching and service duties). We are seeking a candidate with a demonstrated record of published research (including Ph.D. thesis) whose research interests align with those of Professor Pan; broadly, these include the following areas: Riemannian geometry and geometric analysis.

The selected candidate will contribute to the undergraduate and graduate programs, conduct research in the above fields, and collaborate with Professor Pan, other faculty members, and graduate students. Research, teaching, and service expectations are typical for early-career faculty at a research university. Visiting Assistant Professors are eligible for a full suite of University of California benefits.

Applicants with expertise in Riemannian geometry and spaces with lower curvature bounds are strongly encouraged to apply.

UCSC has a high proportion of first-in-family undergraduate students. We are a Hispanic-Serving Institution and an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institution. We welcome candidates who understand the barriers facing women and minoritized individuals who are underrepresented in higher education. Candidates with backgrounds in promoting equity and diversity through teaching, mentoring, research, service, or life experiences are encouraged to apply.
